Description
Product Description "On record, as in concert, the fellinis glide easily and often from frenzied excursions to plainitive exotic melodies to hypnotic grooves. They revolve in three disparate orbits. Sometimes they're off in their own corners of the universe, and sometimes they're aligned perfectly." Downbeat Magazine - September 1998 From the Label "Self released on the fellinis' brounsoun label, Out Through The N Door has the kinetic, emotionally charged feel of a once in a lifetime jam session. Offset by Karnaz's unpredictable rhythm work, Kenyatta blows poignant melodies and temperamental flutters against the Redeemer's jumping bass groove. The result is all at once funky, avant-garde and truly difficult to describe." About the Artist Black Edgar Kenyatta, also known as David Boyce, and the Professor, also known as Kevin Carnes, first played music together in 1989 on the day San Francisco quaked. Ayman Mobarak, who attended Cornell with David, arrived a few months later and played bass. The Redeemer, also known as Kirk Peterson, became a fellini in 1995. Ayman left to program software. broun fellinis have progressed from standing room only crowds at their Tuesday night sessions at the Elbo Room in San Francisco's Mission District to successful tours all over America. The fellinis recently performed a sold out US tour with Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals and roast stages on a regular basis while opening for artists such as Erykah Badu, The Roots, Last Poets, Jimmy Smith, Groove Collective, MeShell NdegeOcello, WAR, Ice-T/Body Count, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Medeski/Martin/Wood, John Scofield, Ronny Jordan, The Eddie Palmieri Octet, Deborah Harry and the Jazz Passengers, Dana Bryant and Money Mark. broun fellinis have sold over 60,000 tapes and compact disks, for both their own label, brounsoun, and through Moonshine Media. They have been feaured on Naional Public Radio, Radio Nova in France, and Greater London Radio. Their music has been used on soundtracks for film and television, including a pilot for MTV's Liquid Television, and featured on commercials for clients such as Levi Strauss and Macy's West. Most recently, the fellinis were asked to perform on a television soundtrack produced by George Clinton. Their latest disk, Out Through The N Door, is scheduled for release in December 1998.
